7 Habits Of Highly Effective People

7 Habits Of Highly Effective People Overview

In The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, author Stephen R. Covey presents a holistic, integrated, principle-centered approach for solving personal and professional problems. With penetrating insights and pointed anecdotes, Covey reveals a step-by-step pathway for living with fairness, integrity, honesty, and human dignity -- principles that give us the security to adapt to change and the wisdom and power to take advantage of the opportunities that change creates.

7 Habits Of Highly Effective People Specifications

Anyone who thinks the audiocassette adaptation of Stephen Covey's bestseller, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, is a shortcut to reading the book has another thing coming. As a preview, the cassette is worth every one of its 90 minutes; as a substitute for the original, it will only leave you wishing for the rest. There's a reason 7 Habits has sold more than 5 million copies and been translated into 32 languages. Serious work has obviously gone into it, and serious change can likely come out of it--but only with constant discipline and steadfast commitment. As the densely packed tape makes immediately clear, this is no quick fix for what's ailing us in our personal and professional lives.

The tape opens to the silky-smooth, overtrained voice of the female narrator, who's responsible for tying together audio clips from actual Covey seminars. Leaving aside the occasional attempts at promoting Covey and his institute, her script does a first-rate job of making sense of Covey's own intense, analogy-rich style of explaining his habits. There's nothing simple about his approach to becoming an effective person. The first three habits alone--which have to do with personal responsibility, leadership, and self-management--could take years to master. Yet the last four are unattainable, the narrator insists, if you can't acquire the personal security--the "inner core," says Covey--that presumably comes from a mastery of the foundation.

Throughout our lessons, Covey's presence is both learned and thoroughly appealing. He drops references to the likes of Socrates, T.S. Eliot, and Robert Frost with the aplomb of an English professor. And his knack for mixing everyday stories with abstract concepts manages to clarify difficult issues while respecting our intelligence. You could argue that the cassette is nothing more than a clever marketing tool for selling another few million copies of the book. But, even at that, it's worth the investment in time and concentration: in the end, we're moved to learn more about integrating all seven habits in our struggle to become better and, yes, more effective people. (Running time: 1.5 hours, one cassette) --Ann Senechal

How to Win Friends & Influence People (Revised)

How to Win Friends & Influence People (Revised) Review

How to Win Friends & Influence People (Revised) Overview

Millions of people around the world have - and continue to - improve their lives based on the teachings of Dale Carnegie. In "How to Win Friends and Influence People", Carnegie offers practical advice and techniques, in his exuberant and conversational style, for how to get out of a mental rut and make life more rewarding. His advice has stood the test of time and will teach you how to: make friends quickly and easily; increase your popularity; win people to your way of thinking; enable you to win new clients and customers; become a better speaker and a more entertaining conversationalist; and, arouse enthusiasm among your colleagues. This book will turn around your relationships and improve your dealings with all the people in your life.

How to Win Friends & Influence People (Revised) Specifications

This grandfather of all people-skills books was first published in 1937. It was an overnight hit, eventually selling 15 million copies. How to Win Friends and Influence People is just as useful today as it was when it was first published, because Dale Carnegie had an understanding of human nature that will never be outdated. Financial success, Carnegie believed, is due 15 percent to professional knowledge and 85 percent to "the ability to express ideas, to assume leadership, and to arouse enthusiasm among people." He teaches these skills through underlying principles of dealing with people so that they feel important and appreciated. He also emphasizes fundamental techniques for handling people without making them feel manipulated. Carnegie says you can make someone want to do what you want them to by seeing the situation from the other person's point of view and "arousing in the other person an eager want." You learn how to make people like you, win people over to your way of thinking, and change people without causing offense or arousing resentment. For instance, "let the other person feel that the idea is his or hers," and "talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person." Carnegie illustrates his points with anecdotes of historical figures, leaders of the business world, and everyday folks. --Joan Price

How To Win Friends and Influence People

How To Win Friends and Influence People Review

This is a really good book if you want to know how to get along with people. Unlike other reviews on this here some of this info can be used in personal relationships not just business.

The whole theme of this book is make this person feel important. Treat them how you would like to be treated. Be interested in them, do not condemn them.

I suggest reading this book with a highlighter and some flag post its. In the beginning they say you should read each chapter twice, but this book is way to boring to do so. It is a good book, but Dale uses way to many examples. BORING ONES! Which is why I rate this a 4 star not a 5.

This book can be written in about 150 or less pages if was not for those tedious examples. He uses about 3-5 examples each chapter making scream to your self SHUT UP I GET IT! So that is why I say use a high lighter. As you read threw all these examples a hint or two comes up on how to influence people and why. To bad he did not mention not to bore people.

Over all it is a good book, just to many examples. Luckily I did use a highlighter and flags to go back to the book when I need it.

And yes my relationship with people did grow. I use to be a guy that will cut people off while talking, argue till I am right pretty much the exact opposite of this book. Give people the upper hand when conversating with some one, do more listing than talking.

And that is it in nutshell.

How To Win Friends and Influence People Overview

How to Win Friends and Influence People is the first, and still the finest, book of its kind. One of the best-known motivational books in history, Dale Carnegie's groundbreaking work has sold millions of copies, has been translated into almost every known written language, and has helped countless people succeed in both their business and personal lives.

First published in 1937, Carnegie's advice has remained relevant for generations because he addresses timeless questions about the fine art of getting along with people: How can you make people like you instantly? How can you persuade people to agree with you? How can you speak frankly to people without giving offense? The ability to read others and successfully navigate any social situation is critically important to those who want to get a job, keep a job, or simply expand their social network.

The core principles of this book, originally written as a practical, working handbook on human relations, are proven effective. Carnegie explains the fundamentals of handling people with a positive approach; how to make people like you and want to help you; how to win people to your way of thinking without conflict; and how to be the kind of leader who inspires quality work, increased productivity, and high morale.

As Carnegie explains, the majority of our success in life depends on our ability to communicate and manage personal relationships effectively, whether at home or at work. How to Win Friends and Influence People will help you discover and develop the people skills you need to live well and prosper.

The Wealthy Code; What the Wealthy Know About Money That Most People Will Never Know!

The Wealthy Code; What the Wealthy Know About Money That Most People Will Never Know! Review

I just finished reading this book and wish I had read it years ago. Like everybody else, I've always wanted passive income, but have never really known how to get it. Some gurus say real estate, some say stocks, some say businesses... I've been so excited with this book because it teaches EXACTLY what is needed to know about building wealth without any of those investment strategies that the other gurus keep shouting about. The author explains the key things that wealthy people know about generating passive income. So whether you decide to use real estate, businesses, or whatever, the concepts apply to them all.

The author also discusses the specific things to watch out for, including how to lower risks and more on risk mitigation, something no other book I've read talks about. I've always heard that `leverage is safe,' but the author shows that's not really the case. He then describes not only how to lower the risks, but how to create wealth with the risk mitigation pieces in place.

I could keep on about the different things I learned in the book, but the bottom line is this: forget the others, this book is a MUST read for anyone who REALLY wants to become wealthy.

The Mentor Leader: Secrets to Building People and Teams That Win Consistently

The Mentor Leader: Secrets to Building People and Teams That Win Consistently Review

Football season officially begins tomorrow. What better way to kick it off than by taking a look at a book written by one of the NFL's most successful coaches. Tony Dungy spent six seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before taking a position as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. In his seven seasons with the Colts, he led them to a total of 85 regular season wins and one Super Bowl Championship. But beyond that, Coach Dungy created in Indiana a legacy of excellence, integrity, and character that has come to define the Colts organization. Three of his former assistants have gone on to establish their own successful head coaching positions, namely Lovie Smith of the Bear, Mike Tomlin of the Steelers, and Jim Caldwell of the Colts. Now why is all this important? Because Coach Dungy has established himself as the very definition of leader, so when he pens a book on becoming The Mentor Leader, you know what he has to say will work.

The Mentor Leader is subtitled "Secrets to Building People and Teams that Win Consistently." It would almost sound too good to be true if Coach Dungy had he not already paved the way by practicing what he now preaches. He develops his entire leadership concept around the idea of being a mentor. At its very essence, Dungy is practically applying the principles of servant leadership taught and lived out by Jesus Christ.

Coach Dungy begins by giving the mandate of a mentor leader. Focus on significance. He urges us to value those we lead and keep an eternal perspective in mind. He continues with the mentor's mindset, which is that the mentor is there to serve and not be served. A chapter on the maturity of the mentor leader discusses dealing with the past and forgiveness. After this Coach Dungy urges us to find the characteristics that matter - character, competence, integrity, self-assured, authenticity.

The second half of the book turns to more practical aspects such as living the message of a mentor leader, using every opportunity to serve as a role model He teaches the reader how to cultivate a team culture in which individuals are made stronger by being a part of the team. He closes out with how to enhance the potential of those you lead - Engage, Educate, Equip, Equip, Encourage, Empower, Energize, and Elevate - and calling us all to look beyond the present win/loss column and into the standings that hold eternal significance.

As a coach myself, I learned a lot from this book. While already engaged in a form of mentor leadership in my own capacity, The Mentor Leader has helped me to correct my shortcomings, give confidence in my strengths, and gave a vision that what I do is more important than the now. I could literally discuss concepts this book covered and how I have applied or plan on applying them for hours. Probably the greatest thing that stands out to me was Tony's concept of building into the lives of those you lead. See yourself as the servant of all rather than the leader of all.

The Mentor Leader combines practical teaching with Tony's autobiographical anecdotes. The result is that football fans not only get a good idea of how to be leader, but also an intriguing look into the business of coaching football. Coach Dungy's memoirs, Quiet Strength, is what landed him a #1 NYT Bestseller's spot. The Mentor Leader builds on that, engaging the principles that made Dungy the coach and leader he is today. By continuing to live out these principles beyond the coaching arena, Dungy is transcending the sport of football and building into the lives of many.

The Mentor Leader is going on a special place on my bookshelf as soon as I finish working my way through it a second time. For anyone who holds any sort of leadership position, this book is an indispensable resource. For coaches of any kind - especially of children - this book should define how you coach.

The Mentor Leader: Secrets to Building People and Teams That Win Consistently Overview

“Your only job is to help your players be better.” That single idea had a huge impact on Tony Dungy when he heard it from one of his earliest mentors, and it led him to develop the successful leadership style so admired by players and coaches throughout the NFL. Now, a storied career and a Super Bowl victory later, Tony Dungy is sharing his unique leadership philosophy with you. In The Mentor Leader, Tony reveals what propelled him to the top of his profession and shows how you can apply the same approach to virtually any area of your life. In the process, you’ll learn the seven keys of mentoring leadership—and why they’re so effective; why mentor leadership brings out the best in people; how a mentor leader recovers from mistakes and handles team discipline; and the secret to getting people to follow you and do their best for you without intimidation tactics. As a son, a football player, and a winning coach, Tony has always learned from others on his path to success. Now you can learn to succeed for your team, family, or organization while living out your values—by becoming a mentor leader.
